Inside Out
The external appearance of the buildings is there for all to see. The interiors are hidden from us yet they are often equally fascinating. It isn’t feasible for visitors to the Square to have access to the buildings which are used as businesses or homes. The Inside Out Project was conceived as a way of showing a wider audience what many of the buildings on the Square look like on the inside today. Some have features preserved from their earliest days, others have been radically re-modelled and many have a combination of the old and the new.
Members of the Preston Photographic Society worked with FoWS to showcase interesting internal features of a number of properties. Owners and occupiers have been very supportive and provided access to the buildings. The result is an ongoing project. Eight properties were featured in posters for our first exhibition which was hosted by the Harris Museum, Art Gallery and Library and then by St Wilfrid’s Church, Chapel Street.
